Alitalia's successor, Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), was given permission to start the flight after ENAC awarded the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to the new carrier.

Italiaigi Di Palma stated that “the hope is that the new national carrier to play a role in the resumption of the sector, making a significant contribution to overcoming the difficulties caused by the pandemic crisis. "

Since Alitalia's bankruptcy in 2017, the carrier has tried to return to the waterline, first when Italy sought a buyer for the airline, then after its nationalization - at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, it received relaunch approval earlier this year, after meeting the criteria of "economic discontinuity".

ITA (new Alitalia) has received the Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

In a business plan set out in July, the ITA said that will start operating flights - officially - on October 15, with a fleet of 52 aircraft. Conformable business plan 2021-2025, the ITA fleet is to increase to 78 aircraft by 2022 and 105 by the end of 2025.

Alitalia has been under bankruptcy protection since 2017, without finding an investor. Italy has had to pump hundreds of millions of euros to keep the company on the market, money that has never been returned and which the European Commission is investigating if it was state aid, although it has not yet decided anything.

In addition, Alitalia has received approximately since last year 300 million euros in aid to companies affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with the approval of Brussels.
