An extremely busy summer is announced for hoteliers and operators in the domestic tourism industry, especially since it is the first time that there are no travel restrictions after two years of pandemic. In addition, the holiday cards for 2022 have started to be loaded, so Romanians have already started booking their summer stays, taking advantage of the early booking summer offers and the fact that they have the opportunity to pay for accommodation with the tickets received (including with the remaining unused ones from 2019 and 2020, which I can only use in June).
For the extended Pentecost weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday), which coincided this year with the start of the children's holiday, Travelminit.ro reports a significant increase in online bookings.
At the same time, the preferences for the summer season have already begun to take shape. In terms of accommodation, tourists now choose boarding houses and apartments, so that they can enjoy more privacy, a quiet holiday in a small circle (family or group of friends). As for the favorite destinations, as expected, the big cities (33% of reservations), the Romanian coast (27% of reservations) and the spas (17%) are still in high demand.
Crowding in the Pentecost mini-holiday: how much did the holidays in Romania become more expensive?
According to Travelminit data, the busiest weekend of this season is coming, with the platform registering 144% more overnight stays for the Pentecost weekend of 2022 compared to 2021. Restrictions have been removed, there is no uncertainty regarding travel, as has been the case in previous years, so tourists can now enjoy worry-free travel.
However, there are some changes in the rates charged by hoteliers, which are now higher than in previous years, a phenomenon that specialists have been announcing recently. In Romania, the price of a stay for 2 people, 2 nights, during Pentecost, increased significantly compared to 2021. For example, the rate for a hotel room increased by 40%, from 638 lei to 895 lei, while the price for a room at the boarding house increased by 36%, from 529 lei to 717 lei.
The increase is due to inflation and rising prices in recent months, but also to the growing increase in accommodation requests. In 2020 and 2021, tariffs were lower because the demand for accommodation was lower due to the pandemic.
Holiday tickets for 2019 and 2020 can also be used in June 2022
It is also worth mentioning that, despite the price increases, tourists can also use in June the old vouchers, which remained unused from 2019 and 2020, for the purchase of accommodation in the country. Holiday cards for 2022 have also started to be loaded, a measure that will have a huge impact for the tourism market, but also for tourists who will be able to enjoy affordable holidays, thanks to this financial incentive supported by the state.
And the good news is that there are still availabilities for the summer season, summer is just around the corner, so it's time for tourists to make their reservations in Romania, before prices rise further by the last hundred.
