Wizz Air will start operating Belgrade's first transcontinental service with the introduction of flights to Abu Dhabi. The two weekly services will start on May 19 and will take place on Wednesdays and Sundays. The flights will be operated with 321-seat Airbus A239 aircraft.

Thus, Wizz Air took the place left vacant by Etihad Airways, which ended operations to the Serbian capital in October last year. The flight to Abu Dhabi is the fifth Wizz Aira destination added to the Belgrade operational program, after Hamburg, Sandefjord, Heraklion and Santorini.

Wizz Air has taken the place left vacant by Etihad Airways.

Etihad Airways handled 114,256 passengers between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade in its last full year of operations in 2019 on 924 flights. The average annual load factor of the cabin was 90,9%, all flights being operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, throughout the year.

Prior to the pandemic, Wizz Air selected Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia and Montenegro as potential markets that could be served from Abu Dhabi. Flights to Belgrade are currently operated by Qatar Airways and Flydubai in the Gulf region.

The Qatari carrier operates three weekly flights to Belgrade with Doha Airbus A320 aircraft, while the Dubai airline, one of the most successful foreign carriers currently operating in the Serbian capital, operates daily flights with additional operations. scheduled for May and the Orthodox Easter holidays.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi launched operations on January 15, 2021, the first scheduled flight being to Athens. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a joint venture between Wizz Air and Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company. The carrier has the status of a national airline in Abu Dhabi, along with Etihad Airways and Air Arabia.
