Due to travel restrictions, the requirement for flights is further reduced. Many airlines have to fly with almost empty planes in order not to lose the slots allocated at major airports in Europe. Others have merged flights on several routes so as not to operate at a loss.

Singapore Airlines is forced to merge flights from Singapore to various destinations in Europe to make them profitable. In this context, from 17 January 2022, Singapore Airlines can sell tickets on the connection between Milan and Barcelona. See three weekly connections on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

So far, the Singapore-based company operates flights on the Milan-Barcelona segment, but without the right to sell tickets.

"We are delighted to be able to offer our customers another option to fly between the popular Italian city of Milan and the famous city of Catalonia - Barcelona."Said MD Singapore Airlines for Spain and Portugal, Joan Lim.

On this route, Singapore Airlines has three low-cost direct competitors: RYANAIR, Vueling and EasyJet. From March 27, ITA Airways will start on the route Milano Linate - Barcelona.

The Milan-Barcelona service comes six months after Singapore Airlines launched its domestic route to Europe: Copenhagen (CPH) - Rome Fiumicino (FCO). There are four weekly connections between Copenhagen and Rome.

Other interconnected routes operated by Singapore Airlines: Frankfurt - New York; Manchester - Houston and Tokyo Narita - Los Angeles.
