The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) organized on July 17, 2023, at the initiative of the president of the organization, Mr. Mihai Daraban, a meeting dedicated to the launch of a new concept regarding interurban air connectivity in Romania.

CCIR has identified this pressing need of the business environment to create a possibility of quick connection between the most important cities of the country, the shortcomings of the land and railway infrastructure being known.

Interurban connectivity

The meeting was attended, physically and online, by the representatives of the county councils that operate airports, such as those in: Arad, Brașov, Cluj, Constanța, Dolj, Iași, Satu Mare, Timiș, Tulcea, Suceava and Sibiu. The meeting also benefited from the presence of representatives of the academic environment, as well as representatives from the aeronautical field.

"CCIR proposes the establishment of a new air operator in the form of a joint-stock company, with the participation of county councils as shareholders, to operate with a significant number of small capacity aircraft (19 seats) between the most important cities of the country, based on a very well established in the long term. Thus, business people from different parts of Romania can move very quickly during a single day between cities located hundreds of kilometers away, saving time and money. At the CCIR level, a feasibility study will be carried out in the next period, following which the necessary documents regarding the status and organization of such a company will be prepared. I am glad that following today's discussion, the county councils have approved our project and have shown their total willingness to put it into practice", said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

We all see such a lack of land and rail infrastructure and have been flagging it for years, so it did not appear overnight, and the CCIR could have flagged it long ago. As for a new airline specializing in regional flights, the idea itself is not bad, just not easy to do. TAROM could make a low-cost regional subsidiary, move 2-3 ATR-type aircraft to the new operator's fleet and start operating :). It is desired?
