The first Airbus A321XLR could be delivered in 2023-2024

At the IATA AGM event, which took place these days in Seoul, Christian Scherer (Airbus chief commercial officer) discussed the new A321XLR model.

Without giving firm information, he mentioned that a derivative of the current A321neo is in the pipeline. The future model A321XLR will have increased autonomy, over A321LR, but we will see it in the commercial service in about 5 years. Christian Scherer mentioned that the first Airbus A321XLR could be delivered in 2023-2024.

Rumors say the new Airbus A321XLR will be announced at the Paris Air Show, which will take place between 17-23 June 2019. The XLR variant of the A321neo plane will be able to carry up to 220 of passengers over a distance of up to 9000 of kilometers.

We remind you that Airbus has already developed a derivative of A321neo and it is called A321LR. It has a range of up to 7400 kilometers. It was ETOP certified for 180 minutes.
