WestJet has resumed commercial flights with the Boeing 737 MAX on January 21, 2021.

Transport Canada (TC) has authorized the return of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to operational service, and WestJet is the first Canadian airline to resume commercial flights with 737 MAX.

After Transport Canada (TC) authorized the return of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to operational service, WestJet became the first Canadian airline to operate commercial flights with this type of aircraft.

Flight WS115 took off from Calgary International Airport (YYC) at 7:50 local time (UTC -7) and landed at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) at 08:32 local time (UTC -8). Upon landing in Vancouver, company executives held a press event.

WestJet will operate Boeing 737 MAX flights between Calgary International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) three times a week, round trip. Subsequently, the airline intends to use the plane for other routes as well.

WestJet has created a special training program for pilots.

Jimmy-Dean Porter, Westjet pilot instructor, collaborated with Boeing and TC to create a 737 MAX aircraft-specific training program for WestJet pilots. Porter himself stressed that he has "full confidence" in the 737 MAX aircraft. The airline currently has 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in its fleet.

Air Canada (ADH2), which owns 24 MAX aircraft in its fleet, intends to resume passenger flights with 737 MAX as of February 1, 2021.

The FAA has authorized the return of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to operational service, on November 18. Brazilian airline GOL was the first company to resume flights with 737 MAX in December, followed by Aeromexico and American Airlines.

We remind you that the decision to record on the ground came as a result of 2 plane crashes that resulted in 364 victims. The first accident was Boeing 737 MAX 8 Lion Air, collapsed in the fall of 2018, followed by Boeing 737 MAX 8 Ethiopian Airlines, collapsed in the spring of 2019.
