IAII airport at 1 million passengers
Today, for the first time in its history, IAII Airport has registered one million passengers over the course of a year. It is the total number of people who have transited the Iasi airport since the beginning of this year until now.
Great news for IAII Airport. For the first time in its history it exceeded the threshold of 1 million passengers in less than 1 year.
But we want to show you the way from this airport to this historic threshold! Through 2012, Iasi Airport was proud of modest traffic, reaching the 176 000 passenger threshold.
IAII Airport on the rise
From 2013 the situation started to move, when the 200 000 passenger threshold has been exceeded. At that time, I was writing about the great performances recorded in December 2013, when about 16800 passengers were boarded and disembarked.
But the rush of passenger traffic came after the inauguration of the new runway, which took place on 21 August 2014. In 2014, Iasi Airport has exceeded the 270 000 passenger threshold, with 20% above 2013.

In 2015, the new track comes packaged with a new terminal - T3. New operating horizons are open and Blue Air makes the most important move. On October 25, the low-cost carrier opened the route Bucharest - Iasi.
Also in 2015, after 23 years of activity, Iasi International Airport has gone on to profit! 2015 brought over 380 000 passengers!
Year 2016, brought 2 new bases to IAII. Blue Air has opened base and other new 3 routes. Also in 2016, Wizz Air opened the base from IAII and 5 external routes.
Thus, in July 2016, IAII International Airport registered an increase of over 160% compared to the same month in 2015. Specifically, in July 2016, the airport in IAII was transited by 96.434 passengers. 2016 was an unprecedented year in the history of Iasi International Airport. Over 890 000 passengers passed through Iasi Airport during the 12 months of the year.
1 million passengers at IAII Airport
In 2017, the growth trend was maintained and thus on 13 November the threshold of 1 million passengers was reached. Also this year, #UnimRomania team put IAII on the Romanian star! We recognize that IAȘi is a photogenic city!
The increase in passenger flow at Iasi Airport is due to the pluralism of routes and partner airlines. The connectivity increased from 2012, when only one external (Vienna) and one internal (Bucharest) were operated, to 21 in 2017.
Of these, 16 are external and covered by 4 different airlines, with the possibility of a new operator investing in Iasi in the near future. The rumors finally announce FlyDubai on the Dubai - Iasi route, but from 2018. Initially the route was mentioned for opening in 2017!
The traffic estimated at Iasi Airport, by the end of the year 2017, is 1.150.000 of passengers, which would mean an increase of approximately 40% compared to the year 2016 and 215% compared to the year 2015.
Iasi International Airport is currently the third regional airport in the country, in relation to the number of passengers transported, and the first in the Moldovan area.
