Air traffic increased by 16.7%
Thus, in the category of airports with 10-25 millions of passengers per year, Henri Coanda Airport, which had an increase of 16,7% of the air traffic, ranked fifth.
”Henri Coandă Bucharest International Airport has registered a growth trend, surpassing airports such as: Lisbon, Berlin, Brussels, Athens, Milan, Prague or Budapest.
In order to reach the maximum growth potential, we have set as priorities the efficiency of the activity, the reconfiguration of investments and the rapid unlocking of the airport development strategy, with a continuous concern for safety and security.
We have managed, in record time, to optimize the services offered to passengers and to expand the processing capabilities, so that the transit of Henri Coandă Airport can be as fast and as comfortable as possible ”, said the general director of the Bucharest Airports National Company, Bogdan Mîndrescu.
The management of the Bucharest Airports National Company has this year a series of operative measures that reduced the waiting time of the passengers to control the documents. So, the processing capacity of Henri Coandă Airport passengers at the check-in counters increased by almost 50% on both streams, entering and leaving the country, and the waiting time for document control decreased by over 10 times (currently being 2-5 minutes).
Also, in order to reduce the waiting time for the security control on the departure flow, the optimization of the control of passengers and hand luggage was ordered at Henri Coanda Airport. Roller beds were placed on all security control lines, tray recovery systems used for hand luggage control were installed and workstations for secondary control of these luggage were installed.
Henri Coanda Airport at the top of European airports
For the comfort of the passengers, during the summer, the two-lane supercharging works were completed on the outflow of vehicles from Henri Coandă Airport to Bucharest. This measure has decongested the car traffic, facilitating the access and outflow of vehicles from the perimeter of Henri Coandă Airport.
This year, the Bucharest Airports National Company has completed one of the projects of major importance for the rehabilitation of the airport infrastructure.
Thus, in 2017, CNAB started and completed the maintenance work and repairs to the road structure of the take-off / landing runway no. 1 of the Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest and at the aircraft running routes. The works totaled an area of 67.228 sqm, of which 39.483 sqm at track no. 1 and other 27.745 sqm on platforms and aircraft runways.
In addition to the ones listed above, we would like to add that 2017 was a year rich in new routes from / to Bucharest. Blue Air opened the Bucharest - Oslo and Bucharest - Helsinki routes; Croatia Airlines opened the Bucharest - Zagreb route; Wizz Air opened the Bucharest - Eilat Ovda route; TAP Air Portugal resumed flights on the route Lisbon - Bucharest. At the same time, several weekly flights were recorded on some already existing routes.
