Henri Coandă Bucharest International Airport was ranked by the Airports Council International - Europe in the top European 5 of the airports with the highest increase in air traffic in the first ten months of the year 2017. The ranking was published on Thursday, 7 December.

Thus, in the category of airports with 10-25 millions of passengers per year, Henri Coanda Airport, which had an increase of 16,7% of the air traffic, ranked fifth.

We have managed, in record time, to optimize the services offered to passengers and to expand the processing capabilities, so that the transit of Henri Coandă Airport can be as fast and as comfortable as possible ”, said the general director of the Bucharest Airports National Company, Bogdan Mîndrescu.

The management of the Bucharest Airports National Company has this year a series of operative measures that reduced the waiting time of the passengers to control the documents. So, the processing capacity of Henri Coandă Airport passengers at the check-in counters increased by almost 50% on both streams, entering and leaving the country, and the waiting time for document control decreased by over 10 times (currently being 2-5 minutes).

Also, in order to reduce the waiting time for the security control on the departure flow, the optimization of the control of passengers and hand luggage was ordered at Henri Coanda Airport. Roller beds were placed on all security control lines, tray recovery systems used for hand luggage control were installed and workstations for secondary control of these luggage were installed.

For the comfort of the passengers, during the summer, the two-lane supercharging works were completed on the outflow of vehicles from Henri Coandă Airport to Bucharest. This year, the Bucharest Airports National Company has completed one of the projects of major importance for the rehabilitation of the airport infrastructure.

The works totaled an area of ​​67.228 sqm, of which 39.483 sqm at track no. 1 and other 27.745 sqm on platforms and aircraft runways.

In addition to the ones listed above, we would like to add that 2017 was a year rich in new routes from / to Bucharest. Blue Air has opened the routes Bucharest - Oslo and Bucharest - Helsinki; Croatia Airlines has opened the route Bucharest - Zagreb; Wizz Air opened the Bucharest - Eilat Ovda route; TAP Air Portugal resumed flights on the route Lisbon - Bucharest. At the same time, several weekly flights were recorded on some already existing routes.

What to prepare for 2018? After 10 years, Romania will be connected via 2 direct routes from North America, more precisely from Canada. From June 2018, the Bucharest - Toronto and Bucharest - Montreal routes will be opened, which will be honored by Air Canada Rouge (subsidiary of Air Canada).

Also in 2018, Ljubljana - Bucharest with Adria Airways. And there are rumors for flights to Tbilisi and Cairo with Blue Air, But and to Astana by TAROM.

Also for 2018, Wizz Air has announced 3 new routes: Bucharest - Nice (14 April), Bucharest - Gothenburg (15 April), Bucharest - Athens (25 March 2018).

And 2018 hasn't started yet. We expect Henri Coandă Airport to maintain its ascending line and we estimate 14-15 millions of properly honored passengers. An exciting year is coming!
